Cherry Hill High School East’s baseball team was defeated by Eastern Regional High School in an 8-4 game on Monday, April 13.
East stayed up with a 2-0 score up until the fifth inning, with runs by Michael Fekete (‘27) and Brody Connors (‘26). On the mound, Nathan Dekerlegand (‘26) let nothing by him for the first four innings and helped keep East’s lead. Eastern came back and tied it up in the top of the fifth with two runs, but it being more than halfway through the game, The Cougars struggled to get back their lead in time.
Eastern advanced with another two runs in the following inning. However, with a home run by Stephen Longo (‘26), letting in an additional runner on base, the score returned to a tie game in the bottom of the seventh.
Rohan Muttathil (‘26) led his team in hits for the game, with two singles, with one of which resulting in a run. Also, Dekerlegand, Fekete and Longo each contributed a hit. Brody Connors (‘26) and Fekete each had an RBI as well, accounting for two of the four total runs.
In the top of the eighth, the Cougars struggled to find a rhythm, switching to two different pitchers within the inning. The pitchers in the top of the eighth included Jackson Hibbs (‘28) and Kyle Fisher (‘26). Despite these efforts, four runs were let in against East bringing the score to 8-4, and giving the Cougars minimal time to bring it back to a tie. East was unable to complete a run in the bottom of the eighth, concluding with a loss.
