Spirit Week volleyball tournament serves up an ace

The annual Spirit Week volleyball tournament was held today, November 19, from 4 pm to 6 pm in the DiBart gym. With Mr. CJ Davis, the Coordinator of Student Activities, as the referee, the event was a success. The tournament was two rounds of which the second was best of three games. The seniors swept both the girls’ and boys’ events, but not without a fight from the other classes. The freshman boys led by Eric Zaun (’11), Jonathan Silverstone (’11) and Steven Spiegler (’11) showed some heart, but went winless and ended the afternoon in last with a 0-2 reco

Giving the gift of sight in Peru

As residents of Cherry Hill in the great country of the United States, we take for granted many luxuries. Perhaps the list of luxuries can begin with throwing away our toilet paper in the toilet to ending with having a roof over our heads at night. On July 5th, my family and I embarked on a journey to Peru, a country where in most places throwing your toilet paper in the trash can and having no roof over your head was the norm. As this trip was materializing in the spring, many of my neighbors and friends asked a common question, “Why Peru?” And every time I knew what the answer would be. As he did in Africa two summers ago, my dad, an ophthalmologist, had signed up to do cataract surgery for patients in Peru. He joined forces with an organization called SEE (Surgical Eye Expeditions) International, which gives poor or less fortunate people around the world the gift of sight.

Back-to-school night a success at East

Parents have a difficult life. Most act as chaperones for their children’s daily activities, day in and day out. This past Wednesday, on October 4th, the parents of East students took a break from their crazy lives and took on a different road, the road of education. While parents encounter traffic in their daily travels, these lucky adults came upon a different form of traffic: other people.
