After the Student Government Association (SGA) speeches for the class of 2018 were given on the previous Tuesday, March 5, elections were held on Tuesday, May 13 for the 2015-2016 school year. Out of three presidential candidates, Maddy Vogel (’18) was elected as the new president.

Vogel said, “I am so excited to be the new class president and I am looking forward to making next year great for the class of 2018.”

She is hoping to make sophomore year a great year and wants sophomore cotillion to be memorable. Vogel wants to unite the class of 2018 through activities. Vogel said she hopes to better unite the class of 2018 by getting as many people as possible to participate in spirit week and come to all of the dances.

“I just want everyone to get the most out of their sophomore year,” said Vogel.

Surprisingly, there was a tie for third place in the vice presidential election, which has only ever happened one other time in 2006, so there will be four vice presidents.  There were six vice president candidates. The Vice Presidents for next year will be Louis Zimmerman (’18), Aditi Lohtia (’18), Anna Fleischer (’18) and Madeline Levin (’18).

“I was so excited when I won because I feel like I can offer so much to my class and contribute to so many events,” said Levin. “Before I found out that I won I was so nervous, especially since they said that there was going to be tie.”

About three hundred kids turned up in the auditorium to watch the candidates give their speeches, demonstrating a great show of support and respect for their classmates. The Class of 2018 looks like they will have a great sophomore year.
