Ryan Moyer (‘26) has been playing football since freshman year, and recently, Moyer has committed to New Haven for football and has received a scholarship.
Moyer joined East Football freshman year, showing great promise, but needing a lot of practice. He looked up to a lot of older players who helped lead by example for him, especially since he was new to the sport.
“[Ryan] was new to football when he got to high school. So we saw how much talent he had, but he had a lot of work to do, and he put in a lot of work because he didn’t play football before high school,” said East head football coach, Coach Drob.
The commitment process proved to show many options for Moyer, but in the end, he ended up committing to New Haven after touring the college, discussing scholarships, recruitment, and offerings.
“So colleges actually come into the school to meet with football players. That’s just how recruiting works for football. So they come in, meet with players, and then guys take visits and everything throughout their junior and senior years to figure out where they want to go,” said Coach Drob.
Some of Moyers’ best moments include his touchdowns in high-stakes games, which easily changed the score to favor East, and important games such as conference games.
“…In terms of football, he had some big plays as a junior where he started to make an impact. He had big plays against Cherry Hill West as a junior when we won,” said Coach Drob. “This year as a senior, I believe he had nine touchdowns…so he had a big impact over the last two seasons and a lot of our success.”
Moyer was once the team captain, showing strong leadership initiative. He is highly passionate, an academic performer, and brings energy to every game when the team needs it most.
“He’s really passionate once he gets committed to football and all of the sports he plays. So those things go a long way,” said Coach Drob.
“I didn’t really know if I was going to play a sport in college. I thought I was just going to go for academics, then last year, the opportunity came up that I could play college football, so I really took it and ran with it,” said Moyer.
And by moving on to play in college, he will go on to continue to be a passionate and determined athlete.
