In July of 2021, Georgetown University recruited Cherry Hill High School East Boys Swim Team’s, Nick Pezzella (‘22). Next fall, Pezzella will begin his freshman year as a member of the Georgetown Hoyas Swimming & Diving team.
Pezzella began his swimming career at age 11 at the South Jersey Aquatic Club thanks to encouragement from his friends. The senior initially began his passion for swimming by joining the Willowdale Swim Club swim team only in the summer, but he later fully committed to the sport by beginning to swim year-round at SJAC. Nick has been swimming competitively for East since his freshman year and had always known that he would pursue a spot on a college swim team when the time came. Swimming for East allowed Pezzella to gain new connections and comprehend just how dedicated he was to swimming.
When it came time to look at colleges, Pezzella visited various schools that were home to exceptional swim teams. The swimmer met with college coaches and teams throughout the spring of his junior year to find the college that would best fit his goals and needs, and his final decision was Georgetown University. Pezzella shared that Georgetown was his ideal school “because of the great academics and team culture. [He] also loved the campus and the location.” Georgetown also fulfilled his goals in the academics department. Aside from swimming, Pezzella is passionate about pursuing a career in business. The university is home to a distinguished business school at which Pezzella will continue his academic career. He explained that “DC is a great location for business internships and opportunities,” and this was another reason to commit to the school.
Swimming in college will present Pezzella with a whole new path of opportunities to explore the sport that he has been so passionately committed to for such a major portion of his life. Participating in such an intensive sport in college, as opposed to high school, will open up a new environment and new changes for Pezzella, and he is “looking forward to being a part of a close-knit college team and making a lot of new connections.”
Besides committing to college, Pezzella is also looking forward to his last season on the East Boys Swim Team. “I feel like our team is at the strongest it has ever been, and I’m very confident in us for this season,” shared Pezzella, envisioning the success of the team this year.
Pezzella is hoping for a great, final season of swimming at East this year and is thrilled to be continuing his academic and athletic career at Georgetown University in the fall of 2022.
