After having a highly successful season, Ben Schlotterer (‘25) has been recognized for the Men’s December Athlete Spotlight.
Schlotterer grew up swimming at Jersey Wahoos for eight years. Now, he is planning out his future plans for his collegiate careers.
“I’ll be attending Loyola Maryland for swimming next fall and I hope to make a great impact by earning a spot on the conference team as a freshman, while also achieving my personal bests,” said Schlotterer.
In the month of December the team had three meets, and went 2-1. Their first meet was against Rancocas Valley Regional High School (6-4), winning 108 -57. Schlotterer participated in the 200 MR, a race where four players from a team participate with each of them doing a different type of stroke. One will do a butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and a freestyle. Schlotterer had the first best time out of anyone in the race, making a big contribution to the Cougars’ win. This ended up being his best MR for the season.
The boys continued the dominance in their next race against the Haddonfield bulldogs (12-1), and did not fail to show up, winning 115-55. Schlotterer participated in the 200 MR, the 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and lastly the 400 freestyle. Schlotterer took first place in all of his individual competitions and as well first in all of the team events.
The last meet for the Cougars in December was against St. Augustine Prep (10-0). Schlotterer participated in the 200 MR and 400 freestyle for team events. In both events the Cougars just barely took second place. For his individual events he swam in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Schottlerer clocked in at 0:51.19 in the butterfly and 0:50.11 in the backstroke. Both of these times ended up being his two best for the entire season in the individual events.
There is no doubt that December was Schlotterer’s best month, with him setting his season best in 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 MR, and 400 freestyle. With dominant times like this, Schlotterer was able to earn a spot on the first team all South Jersey for the backstroke.
“Swimming for East has been a great experience and opportunity. The team showed me what it means to be part of a family and how incredible it is to be part of a winning program,” said Schlotterer.
