On Saturday, September 27, the Cherry Hill High School East girls soccer team (4-3-1) defeated Cherry Hill High School West (3-5-1) in a local showdown 3-1.
The game marked the first-ever West vs East match played at the new Cougar stadium. The game was played at sunset and was a good showing with lots of students, parents, and alumni.
West was able to take the first lead of the game after junior Veronika Jablonski (‘27) was able to find senior Alana Mayo (‘26) for the first goal of the game.
The Cougars, however, were able to answer back before the half ended, after junior Talia Armando (‘27) was able to pick up her ninth goal of the season, being able to tie things up going into the half.
“It felt great to score, but more importantly, to get a win after losing the last two years. The crowd made the experience even more memorable, and it was definitely a game to remember,” said Armando.
Early in the second half, the Cougars struck again as junior Dylan Kratchman (‘27) was able to find the back of the net to give the Cougars their first lead of the game.
In the last ten minutes of the game, senior Kira Fowler (‘26) was able to score to secure the win for the Cougars. This goal put Fowler at 75 career points and gave her the chance to hit that milestone in her final East vs West matchup.
“Scoring in the final East vs West game of my career felt eclectic and a surreal moment I’ll remember forever. I’ll never forget this day with my teammates. It’s truly such a special memory,” said Fowler.
