On Thursday, October 9, the Cherry Hill High School East football team (7-0) defeated Cherry Hill High School West (2-5), 49-7, in the annual Fall Classic.
The game was highly anticipated, as it was featured as the NJSIAA Network and MaxPreps “High School Sports Game of the Week”.
With the victory, the Cougars secured their second straight win over West, keeping the boot on the East side for yet another year. The rivalry trophy has become a symbol of pride for both programs. The Cougars will look to make it three years in a row next season at the Cougar stadium.
The Cougars took an early lead after a six-yard touchdown run from tight end and linebacker Ryan Moyer (‘26). Quarterback Josh Greenberg (‘27) later connected with receiver Kyle Fisher (‘26) for a 35-yard touchdown, extending East’s lead to 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Cougars kept it going in the second quarter with a one-yard touchdown from Moyer and a 16-yard interception return from defensive lineman Austin Morissey (‘27). Helping give the Cougars a 28-0 lead at halftime.
Coming out of the half, the Lions finally found the endzone with a 17-yard touchdown pass, where quarterback Hayden Baker (‘26) was able to find receiver Derek Hughes (‘26).
The Cougars then answered back with Moyer finding his three rushing touchdowns of the game with a monster 33-yard run to the endzone.
The Cougars put the nail in the coffin in the fourth quarter with a receiving touchdown from running back and linebacker Jaden Green (‘26) and a 31-yard rushing touchdown by running back and linebacker Dillion Haddock (‘27).
The Cougars were led on the defensive side by defensive lineman Dominic Canzano (‘26) with one-and-a-half sacks and an interception from defensive back Liam Sweeney (‘27).
The Cougars now have only two games left, and only one home game remaining in the regular season. This was the last big game for many seniors, as it was their final East vs. West matchup.
“To beat West in both my junior and senior seasons was an unbelievable feeling. It’s something I’ll remember for years. What is important now, though, is we keep winning and we have to stay focused and disciplined and take it one game at a time,” said offensive and defensive lineman Ona Pela (‘26).
