Usher fans were “screaming” at his Super Bowl LVIII halftime performance in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday night. The eight-time Grammy winner and R&B popstar made the halftime show all sorts of fun, flashy and flirty. With 11 songs performed, a skating routine, and surprise guests, Usher’s halftime show is truthfully one to remember.
Usher opened his performance on the field in an all white outfit with a fur cape and gloves to the song “Caught Up” from his 2004 album, “Confessions.” Las Vegas show girls with blue feathers and acrobats were incorporated into the choreography to illuminate the field. Shortly after his first performance, Usher made a tribute to his mother saying “We made it, this is for you.”
Usher slowly transitioned into “Love in This Club” from his album “Here I Stand” which had blazing red lights and the audience going wild. With the incorporation of tubas, trumpets and other musical instruments, Usher created a beaming, bright atmosphere for all of Las Vegas.
As “Love in This Club” faded, the camera quickly turned to a red piano. Playing was none other than Alicia Keys in her dazzling red jumpsuit. She sang her hit “If I Ain’t Got You” sitting at the piano to which Usher joined her in song. Next, shocking the crowd, they sang “My Boo.” This ended with a sweet rejoice shared between Keys and Usher.
The crowd was bouncing at Usher’s next performance as he sang “Confessions” from the 2004 album. The cameras then showed the stage looking like a clock as Usher segued into “Nice & Slow” from the album “My Way.” Usher then transitioned into “Burn” which had the stadium glowing with images of flames. He moved into “U Got It Bad” while the fans went wild over Usher taking off his shirt. As he changed into his next outfit, H.E.R played “Bad Girl” on the guitar while dancers came out on roller skates.
Usher came out in a dazzling blue jacket with matching pants on roller skates as he transitioned into “OMG.” This then turned into “Turned Down for What” where the stadium went crazy. Then, it switched into another well known song by Gen Z and millennials, “Yeah!” Usher showed off his sleek dance moves when he was joined by Lil Jon and Ludacris. With musical instruments, dancers and illuminating white and blue outfits, this performance had the audience screaming and shouting by the time it ended.
With only 13 minutes to perform, Usher had to pick out certain songs as all of his top hits couldn’t be played. Fans were looking forward to “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love” and were also speculating that he would bring out Justin Bieber to sing “Somebody To Love.”
All in all, Usher put on an energizing performance that illuminated all of Allegiant Stadium. This performance brought back many memories fans had with Usher’s music as he isn’t very prominent in the music industry anymore. Although fans were disappointed by some of his song choices, Usher put on an entertaining and fun show with lots of surprise guests. His performance is definitely one to remember.
