Fortunately for students, Cherry Hill High School East offers a multitude of different clubs; unfortunately, however, some of these clubs post the majority of their meeting information on Instagram. While Instagram may be popular and quick, it is not effective in communicating information to all members. Even for students who do use social media, it is easy to scroll by a club’s post, since they might mistake it for an ad. 

Additionally, if clubs have time to make posters announcing their meetings on Instagram, surely a quick post on Google Classroom would be possible. Many students check Google Classroom frequently, and therefore, posts on the website would be hard to miss compared to posts on social media.

Moreover, some of the posts on social media can be misleading to students, as many are pre-made templates with minor text edits. The posts may include pictures that mislead students regarding certain parts of the club’s activity. If clubs are going to make posters announcing a meeting, they should at least be authentic to their activities. 

Further, some East students don’t have social media, serving as a barrier to club participation. Google Classroom is something all East students are guaranteed to use. When only ten people show up to a club meeting, perhaps it’s because it did not have enough exposure. Clubs are bound to have more participants when the meeting is posted on Google Classroom.

The positive outcome of including information on Google Classroom is that club leaders can rest assured knowing that interested students most likely saw the message. Instagram can fail to reach everyone, and club meetings require as many attendees as possible so that events reach their full scope and potential.

Although Instagram is quick and popular, it is not the most effective way to reach all students. Google Classroom is used regularly by East students and ensures that important club updates are seen. Posting meetings on Google Classroom would increase awareness, reduce confusion and allow clubs to have better attendance and overall success.
