Students at East create new clubs all of the time to help enrich the community. A new club to add to your list to join is Women’s Support Shelter. Women’s Support Shelter had its first meeting on January 23 and plans to have many events. Events that the Women’s Support Shelter has planned to do is making kits with hygiene products to give to different Women’s shelters. Kits will be different each time and pertain to Holidays by adding in different things such as chocolate. Material that will be in all of the kits will be travel size toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and feminine products. Roberta Dapi (‘25), Anna Groff (‘25), and Mina Kuroda (‘25) founded Women’s Support Shelter and Ms. Breen is the advisor.

The idea of this club began in December and it has been recently approved. The main focus of the club is to help and supply Women who do not have the accessibility to buy necessary products. Many of the Shelters that this club will be connecting with also deal with Women who were abused in some way. Being an advocate for those in need is a crucial part of any community.

“I think it is important because we take shelter clothing and food for granted when others in our community are not exposed to this. Sometimes we can all be stuck in a bubble and it is important to see others’ perspectives and help when you can,” said Dapi.

Joining this club is a way to give back to the community and give a helping hand to those in need. All students at East are welcome to join this club.

“Anyone who is interested in community service should join this club and those who want to help support women,” said Dapi.

In the future, the club wants to do events where they go to Women’s Shelters and volunteer with breakfast and other projects.
