Every year, students from each grade look forward to one main event during Spirit Week: the dance competition! Choreographers, dancers, and artists come together to learn and teach others. Using this year’s themes—fantasy, western, horror, and romance—they created elaborate, upbeat, and thrilling performances that simply blew judges away. Yet, it begs the question, how do they do it?
Spending countless hours curating music, these students create a soundtrack that perfectly encapsulates their grade-level theme. This year, freshmen specifically used songs like “Into a Fantasy” from How to Train Your Dragon and “Let it Go” to set a whimsical and mythical scene. Sophomores, on the other hand, used their choreography to illustrate their theme, acting out a true western showdown, and a horse race! With the theme of horror, Juniors choreographed complex dance formations to showcase their eerie theme, forming words like “Boo” and an X. Finally, the winners of spirit week, the Seniors, decided to act out parts from popular romance movies to depict their classic romance story. At the end of the night, the senior class won the dance competition, followed by the juniors, and then the sophomores and freshmen. Based on the results of the dance competition, the overall Spirit Week standings ended in the same order, with the seniors taking home first place.
Spirit Week has been, and will continue to be, truly exciting to watch and participate in. Putting immense effort and time into not only the spirit week dance competition but also the booth, lunchtime games, and baking competitions characterizes the East community as a whole. At the 2025 dance competition, it was thrilling to see how well each grade performed, and it’s already been hyped for next year.
