This year’s Spirit Week theme was movie genres, which the classes followed in the dance and booth decoration. The seniors chose romance, the juniors chose horror, the sophomores chose western, and finally, the freshmen chose fantasy.
The seniors won the Spirit Week Dance with 254 points, securing their Spirit Week victory. Their romance-themed dance included songs such as “Falling for Ya” by Grace Phipps, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli, and “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by Elton John and Kiki Dee. In second place were the juniors with 253 points for their horror dance. Following them was the sophomores’ western dance, and lastly the freshmen with their fantasy dance.
The booths decorated in the cafeterias were painted with each class’s respective theme. The seniors painted a French restaurant for romance, featuring a wedding cake and the tower from Disney’s “Tangled.” The juniors made a haunted house with paintings of horror movie antagonists and iconic movie elements such as a Chucky doll and a single red balloon from the movie “It.” The sophomores decorated the booth as a western saloon, embellishing it with root beer bottles, cacti, and saloon doors. The freshmen created a castle, which they decorated with vines, cardboard towers, and a painting of a magical tree.
Every year, the booths collect nonperishable food items to be donated to the Cherry Hill Food Pantry. Every can donated is a point for the class of the student that brought it; the seniors had the most cans donated at 1,228 cans. In total, 2,700 nonperishable foods were donated through all of the booths.
In the end, the seniors won Spirit Week with 6,148 points, followed by the juniors, then the sophomores, and finally the freshmen.
