On October 27th, the East Music Department held the annual Fall Preview Concert where every ensemble in the department performed.

This was the first completely normal fall preview in 3 years – as last year’s concert still had covid protocols and had a substitute choir director.

During the concert, each group performed one piece they prepared, giving the audience a showcase of everything in the department – with the exception of Jazz Standards, as 3 of the 5 members were unable to perform.

“It’s like getting a taste of everything in the department because each ensemble performs one song,” said Mrs. Lockart, one of the two current choir directors at East.

East currently has over twenty instrumental and vocal groups that are separated by skill, style, and instrument and song type. The school is well known across the state for its music program after groups like the Voce/Belles of East and the Symphony Orchestra performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing and the White House.

Highlights of the concert include Stay Tuned’s performance of “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush, Voce’s performance of “Blue Skies” by Irving Berlin, and Lab Band’s performance of “All In” by Lennie Niehaus.

The upcoming concerts for the music department are the Winter Instrumental Concert on December 21st and the Vocal Concert on January 12th. Each of these concerts contains only vocal or instrumental groups performing multiple pieces.
