At Cherry Hill High School East, diverse clubs are made available to students who are looking to pursue a passion or develop a new interest. Recently, East Storytellers has joined this community of East clubs for the 2025-2026 school year. The East Storytellers club aims to create and direct skits based on popular children’s novels and act out these skits in local community locations such as libraries, elementary schools, and book stores.
The club founders, Alden Springswirth (‘28) and Paulina Wilwohl (‘28) created this club to make East students feel comfortable and facilitate loose writing and acting.
“[We want to] make an impact locally and spread positivity through storytelling,” said Wilwohl.
All new club members are uplifted and encouraged to express themselves through storytelling. The community of the East Storytellers is nothing short of fun and reminiscent as students perform nostalgic stories from childhood like “The Three Little Pigs” or “Charlotte’s Web.”
At meetings, the club divides into two groups–the writing group and the acting group. The writers design the scripts based on the storyline of the children’s book. Then, the actors memorize and enact these scripts. The founders hope that through multiple ways to participate, the club appeals to a large audience of students.
“[We plan to] get kids excited about reading and theatre” said Springswirth.
The founders hope that in the near future, they will perform at various events and inspire children to embrace their individual creativity. For students interested in theatre, crafting, and community service, this is the club for you.
