While students at East plan their Halloween costumes or decide which party to attend, staff are also busy at work spreading the holiday spirit. Every year, different departments join together to coordinate fun costumes to wear to school on Halloween day.
The math and guidance departments are often recognized for having the best costumes each year. Last year, the math teachers dressed up as parts of a chopped salad, and the guidance department wore western themed costumes.
“We are having a Halloween luau theme this year, [so] we are putting barrettes and flowers in our hair, and wearing different shirts,” said Ms. Walsh, Cherry Hill East Guidance Counselor.
In preparation for Halloween, the guidance department sends out a spreadsheet to organize their costume. Every year, someone from East nominates which department had the best outfits.
“Our best costume was, one year, we were all dwarfs based on our personality. Another one was Toy Story and we all laid down when Andy walked in like ‘Andy’s coming!’” Walsh said.
Additionally, everyone in the math department is dressing up as different M&M’s this year. In previous years, they have dressed up as “B-Easty Boys and Spice Girls” and “Numberjacks.” The English department has also dressed up as a box of crayons and the Spanish department dressed up as Barbies.
“No matter who has the best costume, I am confident that we will have fun in the process,” said Mr. Killion, Cherry Hill East Math Teacher.

Despite all of the pressure and stress during this time of the year, East teachers always show up for their students to create a fun and exciting environment. Many students remark how much they love seeing their favorite teachers let loose for one day to dress up for Halloween, so make sure to look out for your favorite costumes this year!
