With 2025 coming to an end, the film industry still booms. Here are the December film releases you should be looking out for:
December 12
Ella McCay
Ella McCay (Ella Mackey) is a young woman who struggles with navigating the balance between her ambition and her family. At just 34, McCay is elected governor of her home state, setting out on her political path while still dealing with her personal loss after her mother’s death. This comedy explores grief and the reality that comes with loving the people closest to you.
December 19
Avatar: Fire and Ash
Set once again on the moon of Pandora, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” continues its saga as the third movie in the “Avatar” series. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) struggle with the death of Neteyam (Jamie Flatters) as they continue to fight against the humans invading their land, led by Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang). They’ll also encounter a new Na’vi tribe, known as the Ash people. While the film promises to continue its action-packed legacy that fans expect, James Cameron noted the children of Jake and Neytiri will be an important focus, making this not just an action movie, but a family story too.
December 21
Anaconda
“Anaconda” follows two childhood best friends, Doug McCallister (Jack Black) and Ronald “Griff” Griffen Jr. (Paul Rudd), and their dream to recreate the 1997 movie “Anaconda” following a midlife crisis. As they are attempting to recreate the movie in the Amazon, a real Anaconda shows up, turning their movie of fiction into a reality.
December 25 and 31
Stranger Things
Traveling into the Upside Down, Stranger Things season 5 has already kicked off with Volume 1 (episodes 1-4) having dropped on November 26. On Christmas Day, December 25, Volume 2 (episodes 5-7) will hit Netflix. The season finale will drop on New Year’s Eve, December 31.
With Max still in her coma, trapped in Vecna’s mind, and new threats coming in from the Upside Down, this final season promises the gore and drama “Stranger Things” fans love. With little information having been released to the public regarding these future episodes, fans have begun theorizing online. From what Will’s newfound powers could mean to Holly and the rest of the children’s purpose, Volume 2 and the finale are expected to finally bring these mysteries to a close.
