Young artists across Cherry Hill Township got the chance to see their creativity displayed on gallery walls during the annual ‘I Heart Art’ Youth Art Show, held Feb. 10–22 at the Croft Farm Arts Center.
The show invited students in grades K–8 to create original artwork on canvases provided by the township, giving them a platform to share their work with the community. With an entry submission cost of $5, what began as an effort to involve younger residents in Cherry Hill’s arts scene has quickly grown into a community tradition.
“The Cherry Hill Arts Board hosts a juried art exhibit and juried photography show each year and was looking for ways to reach younger community members,” said Ericha Farrington, the Special Events Manager of the Recreation Department. “While students enter the juried shows, they aren’t always accepted, so this show provides a venue for their work to be displayed for the whole community to see.”
Participation in the program has steadily increased since its first year in 2023, where 100 students participated. Although organizers initially planned for 125 entries this year, the response exceeded expectations, with 134 pieces of artwork filling the gallery.
Walking through the gallery, visitors were exposed to a wide variety of styles, colors and mediums. The exhibition encouraged children to experiment creatively and express their ideas in their own unique ways.
“The art show inspires our young residents to embrace their inner artist and get as creative as possible,” Farrington said. “It’s fun to see all the different mediums used to create their masterpieces.”
For many families, the experience goes beyond simply viewing artwork. Students often bring parents, siblings and friends to see their pieces displayed in the gallery, creating moments of pride and excitement.
“It’s wonderful to see the children bring their families to the gallery, show off their artwork, and feel proud of what they’ve created,” Farrington said.
The show also included a closing reception where each young artist received a certificate signed by Cherry Hill Mayor Dave Fleisher, recognizing their participation.
“Youth art programs encourage children to use their imaginations and foster creative expression and individuality,” Fleisher said in a statement. “Each year, the I Heart Art Youth Art Show is a highlight for our community – it’s an opportunity to showcase the work of these talented young artists and bring families, friends, and neighbors together in celebration of creativity.”
After concluding its third year, the I Heart Art Youth Art Show has become a valued tradition in Cherry Hill, giving young artists the opportunity to see their work celebrated and reminding the community that creativity can start at any age.
