“The Fire Bull” is definitely one way to describe the fiery punch of the new Mexican grill, El Toro del Fuego, in Hamilton, NJ. The restaurant’s debut was on Oct. 29 and it is already a cohesive establishment.
The restaurant has a unique vibe unlike any other Mexican restaurant in the area. To the naked eye, it might just look like some type of Korean barbecue, with the sizzling grills. The staff cooks the meat of your choice in front of you, almost like hibachi. But, instead, the food has a Mexican twist, giving it an extra edge.
The food served here was fantastic. Besides the food served on the grill, they have other food options on the menu, which is ‘all you can eat.’ You can get the premium package that costs $5 more, but you get more food options. Everything on the menu was great, but some standouts were the shrimp ceviche and birria tacos.
To add, the staff at El Toro del Fuego was very friendly and welcoming. For opening less than a month ago, they had pretty much everything under control. I couldn’t even tell that the restaurant was new because they already have some loyal customers.
The owner, Sam Zheng, told me how he first discovered the idea of his Mexican grill. He spoke of how he went to hot pots/Korean barbecues and wanted the same feel, but for a different cuisine. He said this isn’t some type of fusion—it’s just Mexican food cooked right in front of you.
Overall, this is one of the most unique Mexican restaurants in the region. It is a fiery bull of flavor that anyone can enjoy. I, especially, will be coming here again, maybe next time with a completely empty stomach.
