Twenty years ago, Alanis Morissette released her album Jagged Little Pill, with five singles including chart-topping “Ironic.” The album was widely received all over the world. The awards for the album included nine Oscar nominations (winning five of them), topping charts in ten countries, and placing 237 on The Rolling Stones “Top 500 Greatest Albums of all Time” list.

As time went on, more and more albums got released and Jagged Little Pill lost its lustre and popularity, as with most all music trends. However, it is still common to occasionally hear popular singles from the album like “Ironic” and “You Oughta Know” playing on the radio.  

Morissette recently went on The Late Late Night Show With James Corden to promote the twentieth anniversary of Jagged Little Pill. Morissette and host James Corden performed a duet of “Ironic,” or what seemed to be “Ironic,” as the lyrics were changed.In the updated version of “Ironic”, Morissette and Corden poked fun at many issues that the average person might run into in the twenty-first century.

“An old friend sends you a Facebook request/ you only find out they’re racist after you accept,” sang Morissette in one of the more humorous observations of the song.

Topics addressed in the updated version of “Ironic” included iPhones, Tinder, Snapchat, Twitter, the traffic App Waze, the common alternative to smoking cigarettes vaping, Amazon, Netflix and the taxi App Uber.

Morissette addressed the more serious issue of sexism when she sang “It’s ten thousand male late night hosts when all you want is just one woman, seriously!”

However, the theme quickly switched back to lighter issues when Morissette and Corden sang “It’s like you’re first class on a Southwest plane, then you realize that every seat is the same.”

Corden and Morissette sported matching red beanie hats, braids and blue sweaters, similar to what Morissette wears in the music video for “Ironic”.

Morissette also made an appearance on The Tonight Show to promote the anniversary of her album, bringing attention back toward a classic through her television promotion.
