In a back-and-forth game, the juniors pulled off something that had not occured in several years: they defeated the seniors.
The juniors struck first with a 50-yard touchdown run by Kyra Holliday (’10) in the first quarter. The extra point brought the score to 8-0 (unlike the NFL, extra points count as two while conversions count as one), which remained the score until halftime.
In the second half, Jocelyn Prescott (’09) continued to push the seniors down the field. Her own punt return put her in position to score, which she did with a five-yard touchdown with just over 13 minutes remaining in the third quarter. A missed extra point, however, kept the juniors on top, now 8-6.
Ten minutes later, Tina Paglione (’10) burst through the middle of the senior defense for a 70-yard touchdown run of her own. The missed extra point made the score 14-6 in favor of the juniors.
With 32 seconds remaining in the third quarter, QB Gabi Crowe (’09) ran for a 2o-yard score, followed up by a made extra point, tying the game at 14-14.
This would remain the score until Paglione completed a pass to Kim Regan (’10), who ran in for a 45-yard touchdown with just under 15 minutes remaining in the game. A missed extra point made the score 20-14 in favor of the juniors.
Due in part to multiple failed fourth-quarter conversions by the seniors, including one with under two minutes left in the game, the juniors held on to a 20-14 victory and an upset of the seniors.
