When you think of Jimmy Fallon you think of a famous funny talk show host, right? Well think again because he has turned from talk show host to a legitimate singer. Jimmy even partnered up with many popular artists to create his own christmas album titled “Holiday Seasoning”. The album consists of 16 songs, 39 minutes total, and a lot of unique jolly tunes.
You might be wondering why someone famous for a talk show has suddenly decided to release a Christmas album. However, for the past couple years, Jimmy Fallon has actually released a few singles around christmas time. These annual holiday releases likely contributed to his choice to make an official album.
The artists that have features in the album includes The Jonas Brothers, Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainer, Meghan Thee Stallion, The Roots, Justin Timberlake, Will Ferrel, Dolly Parton, Cara Delevin, Chelsea Handler, and Weird Al.
The album overall is a little different from normal Christmas albums. Some lyrics and song titles are interesting but some songs are actually pretty good. Some are really catchy, some are weirdly depressing, some have a little country vibe to it, and some just have really eccentric storylines. The album definitely has a comedic theme to it and the album cover depicts that as it is a picture of him skiing while making a smoldering expression.
The songs featuring more well-known singers like Ariana Grande, both Meghans, Justin Timberlake, and the Jonas Brothers are more catchy than some of the other songs because they have more experience. They are also, in my opinion, the best songs out of the entire album. The songs I recommend listening to are titled “Holiday”, “Wrap Me Up”, “You’ll Be There”, “It was a…masked christmas”, “Hey Rudy”, and “How you know it’s christmas”. These songs follow a catchy rhyme scheme and more sensible lyrics.
In contrast, the other songs on the album follow less of a catchy rhythm and more of a weird storytelling one. An example of this is in the song titled “Chipmunks and Chestnuts” and based on the title it is pretty self-explanatory as to why it is not as good. This song basically consists of repeating Chipmunks and Chestnuts over and over again. In addition, there were also some weird instruments and background sounds added as well which did not match up well with the rhythm. The song titled “Coquito” follows this same weird pattern of overuse of sound effects and weird lyrics.
Another direction that some songs took was more on the depressing side. These songs cue sad piano music, low drums, and sad sounding singers. This is especially prominent in the song titled “Hallmark Movie”. The storyline of this song is sad too due to the fact that it basically consists of singing about bad things happening to these people during christmas. The low tone of the voices also contributes to the depressing tone in this song. These same things can also be seen in songs like “How you know it’s Christmas”, “Thanksgiving Eve”, and a few others.
In conclusion, this album does not match the vibe of true christmas songs, with the exception to the previous songs I recommended. However, if you are looking for funny christmas songs with an interesting lyrical scheme then I would definitely recommend this album to you.
