As a passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan I have attended many games throughout my life. However, most of these games were home games at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Although it didn’t feel like it, Sunday, November 24, 2024, was a different case.
I traveled to Los Angeles with my dad to watch the Eagles take on the Rams at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California. The parking lots and tailgates were filled with Eagles fans and as I walked towards the stadium I heard more Eagles chants and there were seemingly more Eagles fans than Rams. Walking into SoFi Stadium was truly remarkable. As the newest stadium in the NFL, it felt unlike any other. I have been to 10 NFL stadiums and SoFi was by far my favorite one. It didn’t even seem like a traditional stadium because of its modern design.
When we arrived in our section both the people to our left and in front of us were all wearing green and cheering for the Birds. The most striking moment was when the Eagles took the field—it felt like the energy of our fans was louder and more exciting than when the Rams took the field.
The game started with a lot of intensity and the Eagles struggled early on. By the end of the first quarter, the Rams had pulled ahead with a 7-3 lead after a Kyren Williams touchdown. At that point, it was clear that the Eagles were playing as the away team, with the Rams’ fans now making their presence felt. The Rams crowd was loud and energized as a reaction to the strong start. At that moment, the energy from the Eagles’ side had seemingly faded away. Despite this, the slow start didn’t last as we went into halftime with a lead after scoring a touchdown and a field goal.
The real turning point in the game was when RB, Saquon Barkley, ripped off a 70 yard touchdown on the first play of the third quarter. Once again, it felt like I was back home in Philadelphia with the crowd roaring after that play. From then on, the Eagles never looked back. The crowd went even crazier in the fourth quarter when Barkley did it again, scoring a 72 yard touchdown. Rams fans began fleeing the stadium, knowing the game was a lost cause and the Eagles fans took over SoFi stadium.
This game ended up being an unforgettable experience. Despite a rough start, the Eagles bounced back and took control of the game. The energy from the Eagles fans surprised me and grew even stronger throughout the course of the game. It was a trip I’ll never forget and it showed that no matter where the Eagles play, their fans are always right there with them.
