For Jaxson Bowman (‘25), his commitment to the University of Delaware to play Division I football is the culmination of all of his hard work, endless hours of training, and deep love for the sport. He has successfully accomplished his goal of playing at the highest level of competition after 13 years of work and will carry on his athletic career in Newark, Delaware.
It was nowhere near a cakewalk for Bowman to make it to where he is now. During his senior season his determination was dared, due to a lingering injury.
“I never really had any injuries before, so having to play through pain in my hamstring every day was for sure a challenge. It was worth pushing through, however, because of how great of a season we had,” said Bowman.
This season, Cherry Hill High School East went undefeated in the regular season, with an 8-0 record, and won a ninth game in the first round of playoffs. Unfortunately, the Cougars fell short in the second round.
Bowman’s recruitment process, which began earlier than most, brought upon some struggles as well as successes.
“Recruitment really had two phases. It was very fun and interesting at first, but as it went on, I wanted to narrow down options and really find a place that felt like home. And since it started pretty early, I was pretty worn out by the time I committed. Still, I am very thankful for all the interest shown in me, and when it was all said and done, I knew Delaware is where I wanted to be,” Bowman remarked.
During his official visit in June, it was clear to Bowman that Delaware was the place for him.
“Every coach and player I talked to there really made it feel like home, and at that point, the decision was easy. It was just the perfect school and football program that suits how I am as a player and person,” Bowman explained.
Bowman thanks his parents and coaching staff for guiding him to where he is today. He also expressed his gratitude for them pushing him to become the best possible version of himself.
“I really wouldn’t have any milestones without my parents and coaches, as they have guided me through every step of the way so far.”
As Bowman continues his journey, he is eager to represent the Blue Hens of Delaware and begin this new athletic chapter in the next fall season.
