Girls’ volleyball continues to win

Today after school, the Girls’ Varsity volleyball team maintained their undefeated streak in a victory against West.
Preparing for the first match, East psyched themselves up through cheer and hand claps. They finished the first match with ease by holding a constant lead. Though West made decent attempts to regain a lead, East managed to defeat them with kills made by Marissa Johnson (’10) and Anna Johnson (’10) along with hits by Sarah Gurkin (’10).

Going into the second match, East was ready to beat West yet again. Though the Cougars trailed behind West in the beginning, Gurkin tapped the ball over the net, giving the lead back to East. For most of the second game, the score fluctuated by a minor two points, until East brought the score in favor of them, 13 to 12.
With West’s out of bound hits, East gained a significant lead, eventually leading to the game point. West served to Einhorn, who set the ball for Marissa Johnson’s kill, winning the second consecutive match and overall victory for East. The final score was 25 to 17.
“It feels really good beating West, our cross-town rival,” said Shaylin O’Connell (’11).

It is evident that East’s winning streak is partially due to their teamwork and spirit.

“Being really close to each other defiantly helps us win. We have each other’s backs on and off the court,” said O’Connell.
