East swimmer Anthony Ferraro commits to Montclair State
Anthony Ferraro (‘22) has committed to Montclair University for Division 3 swimming. In July of 2021 Montclair State reached out to Ferraro for him to continue his athletic career and subsequently invited him for some tours and to meet with the Swim team. Ferraro felt it was a perfect fit for his needs as a student and an athlete and decided to commit.
Old Orchard Swim Club in Cherry Hill and MLY Phoenix in Mount Laurel are the two teams that have trained Ferraro since he was 6 years old, after encouragement from his mother and aunt to begin swimming competitively. Ferraro currently swims year-round and in the off-season, he trains by swimming for two hours and lifting weights each day.
“We are going to be the best team in the state and it is just a question of how many championships we are going to win,” says Anthony in regard to his final season at East. Ferraro looks back on his time at East with fond memories and feels he has been well prepared for collegiate swimming by his coaches. His time on the East Swim Team was a historic one, with East winning back-to-back State Championships.
“[Swimming] has taught me to constantly keep working… you are able to do some much more than you think you are,” Anthony explains. While swimming has helped Ferraro in his college and athletic journey, he also feels swimming has taught him valuable life lessons about the nature of success and having a strong work ethic.
Ferraro says he feels Montclair is best suited for him due to their up-and-coming swim program along with their academics, in which he is interested in pursuing a degree in either Nursing or Biology. The fact that Montclair is the second largest public school in New Jersey also stood out to Ferraro as confirmation in his decision to commit. Ferraro has faith in Montclair’s swim team and sees endless possibilities for the future. We can’t wait to watch him succeed in all life has to offer.
