East Girls Tennis defeats Lenape in home opener

The East Girls Varsity Tennis team opened their season on September 8 against Lenape High School. In the brutal heat reaching far into the nineties, the Girls Tennis team won a decisive 4-1 victory over Lenape, starting the season off 1-0.

In the team’s 4-1 win, first singles Steph Yanosov (’17) dominated her match and started the Cougar’s charge with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Both second singles Gabby Zimmerman (’16) and third singles Rachel Pham (’16) continued the girls’ success putting East up 3-0.

First doubles Lauren Romisher (’16) and Natalie Yanosov (’17) couldn’t break ahead in their sets and came off the match with a tough loss. However, Romisher and Yanosov are players to watch as the season progresses.

Second doubles Rebekah Colacot (‘18) and Sarah Jang (’17) pulled away with a hard fought win after trumping their opponents 10-7 in a tiebreaker set.

The East Girls Varsity Tennis teams 4-1 win over Lenape puts the team one step closer to their playoff hopes.

“They are scholar athletes. They get on the court, they prove themselves, but every day is a new challenge,” said Coach Jewett.
