The Cougars got their second straight win this past week with the 20-7 victory over the Lenape Indians. The Cougars were led by their running attack as they scored two out of their three touchdowns rushing the ball. Daishi Goto (’13) averaged 5.2 yards per carry in the victory. Goto rushed for 156 yards—his season high thus far.
After both teams had stellar defensive performances in the first quarter, Cherry Hill East first crossed the goal line in the second quarter with a six-yard run by Goto. However, Lenape immediately struck back with a 51-yard run to tie the game. This would be Lenape’s first and last touchdown, as the Cougar defense thwarted the Indians’ offense, holding them scoreless the rest of the game.
With less than a minute remaining in the first half, East regained control of the game and the momentum with an eight-yard pass from Brandon Stern (’15) to Nick DiVito (’13). DiVito has been on a hot streak with three touchdown catches in the past three games, averaging 87 receiving yards in the past two. The second quarter expired with the Cougars on top 13-7.
At the start of the second half, Blaise Paglione (’13) scampered into the end zone for an eight-yard touchdown run, increasing the Cougars’ lead to 20-7. The Cougars dominated the game from that point on.
The Cherry Hill East Cougars improved their record to 2-3. Next the Cougars take on Paul VI this Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
