East basketball player Drew Greene commits to Muhlenberg College
Drew Greene (‘22) has committed to Muhlenberg College, he will be continuing his academic and basketball career. Currently starting at point guard for East and averaging 14 PPG and leading East to a scorching 9-1 start, he is known as one of the top Point Guards in the conference.
Greene began playing basketball at just age 4 with his brother Ryan.
“My brother and I have been playing together and against each other for a while now and that is because my dad put a basketball in our hands at such a young age,” said Greene.
Outside of East, Greene has played for Team Final Black which is an AAU team, and this past summer was his last time playing for them.
The recruiting process for Greene was definitely a rollercoaster, great at times, but also stressful at times. Green had about “35 to 40 schools” looking at him and they were mostly “high academic D3 schools,” and some “some D2 schools”. For Greene, it came down to what schools had the most interest in him and which one was the best fit, “that came down to me choosing Muhlenberg College.”
Greene says his biggest inspiration throughout his basketball career has been his brother, Ryan, “The lessons he has taught me on and off the court are amazing and I’ve helped me be a better person overall. He has taught me how to be a leader on and off the court.” said Greene
Greene has been a 3 year varsity starter for East. In his first season starting, East reached the South Jersey Group IV Finals. Greene said, “Starting on the varsity squad as a sophomore was unbelievable. Not a lot of people get that opportunity and I loved every second of it. I got to experience a lot of good and also a lot of bad and I think that is what has helped me be the player I am today.”
For Greene, the East Basketball experience is something that he will never forget, “I’m thankful for all the opportunities I have gotten and all the games that I have played in.” Greene is extremely grateful that he got a chance to play alongside his brother in a memorable 2020 season which has been a “dream of mine since I was a little kid.”
Greene’s favorite moment in his East Basketball Career was the South Jersey Group IV Semi-FInal double overtime game against Egg Harbor Township. “After we won everyone storm[ed] the court and it was just unbelievable to be in that type of situation as a sophomore. To see the town come together and get behind you and your team was one of the best feelings ever.” Said Greene
In the Fall, Greene will begin his First Semester at Muhlenberg. He plans on majoring in business. Greene is excited to begin this next chapter of his academic and athletic career, and we all can’t wait to see what life has in store for him.
