Cougars dominate Southern in first round of playoffs
On Tuesday, the Cherry Hill East Cougars took on Southern in the first round of the South Jersey Group IV Playoffs.
The Cougars came into the matchup as the 7 seed while Southern came in as the 10 seed.
The game was intense early with both teams finding a rhythm on the offensive end. Jack Flannery shook loose and dished off to Josh Fadahunsi for a ferocious throw down. Fadahunsi finished with 9 points, and a made three pointer. The Cougars led 13-11 after the first quarter.
The game was back and forth for the early minutes of the 2nd quarter until Ian Gross dove on the floor for a loose ball and yet again found Josh Fadahunsi for a monstrous two handed back scratching dunk. The Cougars took a 28-21 lead into the break.
In the 2nd half, Ian Gross started to get it going for the Cougs. Gross finished the game with 26 points including 6 three pointers. Gross leads the state in 3 pointers with 113 made threes and is averaging 19.6 points per game.
The final score was 73-51. Chris Delgado pitched in 13 points with 3 three pointers. Zach Mailman provided a nice spark off the bench with 8 points, all coming in the 1st half. Sean Murphy added a three pointer from the corner.
The 7-seeded Cougars take on the 2-seed Toms River North on Thursday.
