Boys Varsity Soccer finally gets first win
Boys Varsity Soccer finally gets their first win on the pitch after defeating Seneca High School 1-0 on September 28th. After securing the win, the team’s record stands at 1-4. The one goal was scored by senior standout Josh Salkin (’16).
“To get a win is great”, said Head Coach Michael Melograna. “To have some success, confidence up, it allows us to kind of say ok, we got a win, we are off the schnide, [and now] we can go forward”.
It was very tough for the team to get this win. Now that the boys have won, a burden has been removed from all of their backs.
“It’s tough when you are 0-4 and you have 2 goals for and 9 goals against, [the] confidence is gonna’ be down”, said Coach Melograna.
Two of the previous losses were by a score of 1-0 and were definitely winnable for the team. Despite this fact, the team is not dwelling on the past and now looks towards the future.
“We made some adjustments in the lineup, we kept things positive, we had some really good practice days, [and] we [have] had some improvements, so that’s a really good sign”, said Coach Melograna.
Now that the team has captured this elusive first win, the goal is to move on to hopefully getting an invite to The Coaches Tournament and to ultimately make the playoffs.
