The television show “iCarly” plans a reboot with the original cast
“iCarly” reboot coming to you in 5… 4… 3… 2…
This is not a joke. Earlier this week, it was announced that the popular Nickelodeon show “iCarly” will be getting a reboot with the original cast sometime in 2021.
“iCarly” aired on Nickelodeon from 2007 until 2012. The show starred Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress, Jenette McCurdy, and Jerry Trainor. It has been revealed that Cosgrove, Kress, and Trainor will be returning to the show. It is unknown whether or not McCurdy will join her former co-stars in the reboot.
Even though “iCarly” was produced by Dan Schneider (who is responsible for most of the popular Nickelodeon shows from the 2000s and 2010s), Jay Kogen will produce the reboot. Kogen has also previously worked on “The Simpsons” as a writer and producer.
The remake will appear on the streaming service, “Paramount+”. “Paramount+” is just CBS’s streaming service, “CBS All Access”, which will be getting rebranded in 2021.
Kogen shared the exciting news on his Twitter account on December 9th, 2020. “People were asking what I was doing. Now I can tell you. We get to make iCarly for ADULTS!” Kogen tweeted. The news spread rapidly among “iCarly” fans who shared all over social media how excited they were to watch the reboot. Unfortunately, the show will not begin filming until March 2021 so it will most likely not premiere until later in the year.
While on Nickelodeon, “iCarly” was about two teenage girls, Carly and Sam, and their popular web show “iCarly.” Carly lived in Seattle, Washington with her older brother and guardian, Spencer.
The finale of “iCarly” ended with Carly moving to Italy with her dad as he had a job there in the military. Because of Carly’s departure, Sam and Carly’s web show came to an end.
No plans have been shared about what the storyline of the new show will be. Kogen’s tweet shared that the reboot will be an adult version of “iCarly”, so it is difficult to assume what the show will be like when it is not centered around kids.
While the original cast will be on the show, the characters definitely will not look the same as they did in 2012. Cosgrove is now 27, Trainor is 43, and Kress is 28 years old. Also, Kress is now a father!
Nevertheless, fans are just happy that a reboot is in the works. Kress posted a picture of an article concerning the reboot on his Instagram account with the caption “A little something to look forward to in 2021.” With this news, there is already something to look forward to in 2021!
