Alexandra Basmagy, born in Red Bank, New Jersey, began her ballet training at The Academy of Dance Arts and achieved high grades in Royal Academy of Dance examinations. She continued her training at Studio Maestro in New York City in 2001 and later at the American Ballet Theatre’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, graduating under the direction of Franco de Vita. She attended Summer Intensives at Pacific Northwest Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre.
In 2008, Basmagy became an inaugural member of Corella Ballet Castilla y Leon in Spain, performing significant roles under Angel Corella’s direction. She joined the corps de ballet of American Ballet Theatre in 2011, where her repertoire has included lead roles in “Le Corsaire,” “The Dream,” “Giselle,” “Like Water for Chocolate,” “Manon,” “The Nutcracker,” “Of Love and Rage,” “Romeo and Juliet,” “The Sleeping Beauty,” and “Swan Lake,” among others.
She will be retiring from dancing at the end of this year’s MET season on July 20th, returning to Spain.
