Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter recently performed in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center for her “Short n’ Sweet Tour.” Carpenter put on an hour and a half long show for her audience, entertaining us with a combination of songs from her albums “Short n’ Sweet” and “emails i can’t send.” She put on a stellar show with choreographed dance routines, multiple costume changes, and even a surprise song.
Opening up the show was Amaarae, followed by the Short n’ Sweet Show, a vintage cartoon looking video welcoming us to Carpenter’s tour. Kicking off Sabrina’s set was her song “Taste” which she sang after revealing the color of her opening outfit, which was red.
Carpenter sang all twelve songs on “Short n’ Sweet,” and also added “Tornado Warnings,” “decode,” “Feather,” “Fast Times,” “Read your Mind,” “opposite,” “because i liked a boy,” and “Nonsense” to the mix from “emails i can’t send.”
After her song “Coincidence,” Carpenter introduced an exciting “spin the bottle” game to her tour. Her and her dancers gathered at the heart shaped platform in the center of the stadium, and she brought out a board with song titles on it. Whichever song the bottle lands on is the song she plays a cover of, singing a different song every show. In Philadelphia, she sang “Busy Woman.”
As the show came to an end, she sang her hit single “Espresso” as her encore track. Sabrina released “Espresso” on April 11, 2024, and it soon became a major song of the summer. For this track, she wore a Phillies jersey which amused the crowd, especially because there was a Phillies game the same day as this show. Growing up in Quakertown, PA, this Philadelphia concert was her hometown show making the night all the more special.
Carpenter has been a star on the rise her whole life, beginning as a Disney Channel actress as a teen then branching out into the music industry. Most actors and actresses coming from Disney channel struggle to break their “Disney image” when they leave, attempting to make a name for themselves elsewhere. Carpenter is one of the few Disney stars who flourished outside of Disney, creating a completely new, mature image for herself. The young singer transformed herself from a naive actress in kids shows to a pop princess. She is often compared to a Bratz doll due to her voluminous blonde hair, wardrobe of babydoll dresses, and plastic platform heels. She is also compared to a Polly Pocket doll, considering she’s “five feet to be exact.”
To follow this girly vibe that Carpenter is known for, fans in the audience match her energy by dressing accordingly for her shows. In Philadelphia, the general dress code among fans were mini dresses, skirts, hair bows, 90’s blowouts, high boots, and loads of kiss tattoos.
Carpenter rapidly transitioned from a smaller artist to one of the most popular female artists among teens this past year. Her career really began to take off when she opened for Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” international shows in Latin America, Australia, Singapore, and more. Her iconic “Feather” dance went viral on TikTok, as well as her “Nonsense” outros which were different for every show. Later in the summer she performed an amazing set at Coachella, boosting her popularity even more.
Since then, Carpenter has continued to thrive as a creative artist. Her “Short n’ Sweet Tour” has been nothing but successful, as she’s been selling out her shows. Fans are obsessing over her concert and are amazed by her confident stage presence. Carpenter’s career is only going up from here, so people are excited to see what the future holds for her music.
