“How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” a romantic comedy that came out in 2003, has recently been flooding the “for you page” on TikTok. The film stars Kate Hudson as Andie Anderson and Matthew McConaughey as Benjamin Berry. They later appeared in the 2008 movie, “Fools Gold” together. “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” was directed by Donald Petrie who has directed other popular romantic comedies such as, “Little Italy”, “Just my Luck”, and “Miss Congeniality”. This film explores the pair doing things to benefit their jobs only to fall in love with each other.

Andie Anderson, a journalist, works on her column at Composure by doing “How-To” articles–she is formerly known as the “how-to” girl. Her boss, Lana, assigns her the “How to lose a guy in 10 days” article based on her friend Michelle played by Kathryn Hahn, a situation dealt with at the beginning of the movie. Andie goes on with the experiment to find the perfect guy. Ben Berry, an advertising executive in alcohol and sports, wants to break into the jewelry department, broadening his advertising abilities. He meets with Judy Spears, Judy Green, and his boss Phillip Warren, and they place a bet that he has ten days to make a girl fall in love with him because they don’t think he is capable of advertising jewelry and understanding women. The women pick out Andie Anderson, keeping in the back of their mind she was the girl doing the column. The two meet and go on dates for the next ten days. Andie does crazy things to Ben only to successfully write the article exactly her boss wants. However, the two begin to fall in love with each other.

People on TikTok are now rediscovering the movie, and it is taking over “for you pages.” The scene in the film that is most iconic is when Andie is singing the popular song “You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon that came out in 1972. People have created that as a sound on TikTok. The scene as a whole became popular on Tiktok as well. Andie wears a beautiful yellow dress to the De Lauer event Ben takes her to on the tenth night they have been seeing each other. Many fans are recreating Andie Anderson’s look with the yellow dress, and Kate Hudson tells People Magazine she is flattered by this. Kate Hudson also went on the Today Show recently and talked about how “there was a very feminist twist to that movie, it really inspired young girls. That makes [her] so happy.” The movie has become so popular so quickly, and it really is inspiring to the audience.

The film was on Netflix for a long time, but on December 31, they took it off their streaming service. However, it is available on Paramount+, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Youtube. This movie is finally getting so much recognition, and Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey work great together to create this cinematic masterpiece. The two iconic actors are still great friends, and it’s great to see the success of this movie return so many years later.
