The famous Halloween movie, “Hocus Pocus,” released a brand new sequel to Disney+ on September 30. Fans have been waiting twenty-nine years for this, and it finally made a grand return! Fans were thrilled and hoped it would live up to the reputation of the original movie.

The first trailer was released on June 28, 2022, and in its first 24 hours, it received over 40 million views. The new movie even brought back some of the original cast. This includes the iconic witch trio, Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Bette Midler, along with Doug Jones playing Billy Butcherson, the zombie.

“Hocus Pocus 2,” produced by The Walt Disney Company and directed by Anne Fletcher, portrayed the Sanderson sisters’ mission of completing a dangerous spell that would give them immense power.

The start of the movie introduced the new main protagonist, Becca, played by Whitney Peak, along with her two friends who would help her stop the witches throughout the movie. The girls were tricked into lighting the black flame which brought the Sanderson sisters back to the real world. They were ravenous for power and had a need to live in the real world forever. When the girls realize the sister’s mission, they put together a plan to put a stop to it.

The spell book plays a big role in stopping the witches, and a surprising plot twist occurs towards the end of the movie as well. There are hints towards the final twist throughout the movie and when the three girls go to the woods to stop the witches, it is revealed. They discover that Becca has magical powers and is also a witch. Although Becca was able to take the book away from the witches and attempt to fight them with her magic, they performed the spell anyway. But what the witches did not know was that by performing the spell, they would lose what they hold closest to their heart.

Winifred, the head witch, got the power she wanted, but it was at the cost of her two sisters. This was shocking and saddening to watch because of how upset Winifred was over losing the only people in the world she cared about. The movie came to an end when Winifred agreed to give up her power and in return for a reunion with her sisters.

The sequel concluded with a positive message about family and how sisters would do anything for each other, including giving up what they want most.

This message is part of what made it a great movie and due to this, many fans believe that the sequel did live up to the original. Additionally, it has been a huge hit so far. There was comedy and many plot twists which made the movie a massive success.
