Emily in Paris Season 4, Part 2, brings a fresh and unexpected second half to the events set up in part one, in both Emily’s personal life, and her career. The overall season maintains the show’s mix of romance, drama, and feel-good vibes.
The second half of the season begins with episode 6 during the Christmas season, when Emily comes down to Camille’s family vineyard in Megeve, despite the love triangle between the two and Gabriel. This leads to emotional turmoil, when Gabriel abandons Emily on top of a ski hill for Camille, leading to their sudden breakup.
Throughout the season, their love triangle is constantly the topic of the episode, involving Emily, Gabriel, Camille, and Alfie, although Alfie leaves towards the beginning of the season, leaving the triangle between Emily, Gabriel, and Camille.
Multiple characters are introduced, with unique personalities, but one stands out throughout the season, stirring the pot from the shadows: Genevieve, who accepts a job offer from Sylvie and moves to Paris from New York. While appearing friendly and supportive towards Emily, it becomes clear that Genevieve is here to stir the pot, which is shown throughout the season when she interrupts one of Emily’s marketing campaign meetings, tells the office that Emily is in Rome, and eventually wiggles her way towards a romance with Gabriel behind Emily’s back (which Gabriel ultimately rejects).
Another interesting character is introduced, spicing up the romance for Emily’s personal life that ended after the fallouts she had with Alfie and Gabriel. Marcello, an Italian man who had saved Emily after she was abandoned on the ski hill by Gabriel, runs into Emily back in Paris. Emily finds out that he is part of the family that owns Marcello Muratori, an exclusive clothing brand. As events unfold, Emily and Agence Grateau take on Marcello Muratori as a client, leading to the new office in Rome, where Emily moves to take the lead.
With Emily’s love life and personal life both taking interesting turns, some of the background characters of season four also go through drastic life changes. Mindy, who spent the season preparing for Eurovision by working odd jobs and taking gigs, goes through a messy breakup with Nico after he tells Mindy to quit her jobs to save his image, calling Eurovision a silly performance. Mindy then finds out that she was kicked out of Eurovision because her song was used for commercial purposes. Devastated, she writes a song which she performs on a street performers’ piano in Rome, which goes viral when an audience member posts a video of her song. She gets invited back to Shanghai as a judge and to perform her song. Gabriel, after supposedly moving on from Emily, finally receives his Michelin Star, but is only reminded of the part Emily played in his star. It becomes evident that Gabriel is not over her, when he shows up at Emily and Mindy’s apartment and asks Mindy where Emily is.
Overall, the season continues to keep the familiar sense of romance, drama, and work dilemmas that are shown in the previous seasons. The season reflects Emily’s growth from her past self, providing closure to her messy prior relationships and putting an end to the drama. Season four maintains its visual appeal, lighthearted vibes, charm and is a must-watch.
