Music’s biggest night was hosted on Feb. 2. The 67th Annual Grammy Awards was an evening filled with entertainment and controversy. Many musicians came together at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles to celebrate all of the great achievements by their peers. The event was hosted by Trevor Noah for the fifth year in a row.
Throughout the awards, Noah stressed the importance of aiding relief for the wildfires in California. QR codes were placed on every attendee’s table and were displayed on the TV for viewers at home. When the event came to an end, around $120 million dollars was collected. In addition to raising money, the Grammys also made an effort to support local Los Angeles businesses that were affected by the fires. Many breaks began with a commercial from a local business. Celebrities were featured in these commercials to help bring wider attention to the cause.
The red carpet was hosted a few hours before the event took place. On social media, many fans added to the discussion about their favorite outfits of the night. Sabrina Carpenter wore a blue satin J.W. Anderson’s dress. This look has been among many of the fan favorites. Fans also adored Taylor Swift’s red dress by Vivienne Westwood. One of the most controversial appearances on the red carpet was by Kanye West and Bianca Censori. Both arrived on the carpet wearing all black. Once in front of the photographers, Censori dropped her black feather coat and revealed a sheer mini-dress. Many viewers speculate that West forced her into making this statement. They left the event shortly after their appearance on the red carpet.
Many artists performed on the stage during music’s biggest night. Artists with memorable performances include Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Charli XCX. Each had lively performances that had the attendees on their feet. Cynthia Erivo, Stevie Wonder, Will Smith, and others had an impactful tribute for Quincy Jones. Liam Payne and Toby Keith were also among those who were honored during the award show.
The award show was full of celebrations for members of the music community. The Best New Artist was awarded to Chappell Roan. A few other nominees in this category include Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, and RAYE. Another notable winner of the night included Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” The rap song won Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video. Beyonce’s “Cowboy Carter” won Album of the Year and Best Country Album. She also won Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Miley Cyrus for “II MOST WANTED.”
Taylor Swift fans, or “Swifties,” were upset with some of the award show’s results. This year’s Grammys was the first time Swift has not won an award when she had six or more nominations. She was nominated for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Album, Best Music Video, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Fans were disappointed because of her success with her eleventh studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”
Overall, the 67th Annual Grammys was a successful night for many artists. It was also a successful night for donations to the fire relief in California. From the red carpet to the event itself, this year’s Grammys was a night full of celebrating talented artists in the music industry.
