If fashion were a person, he/she would be polygamous because there are just so many things that the Fashion Industry can be paired with to create a beautiful symbiotic relationship. Read on to find out for yourself!
Business
– Hollister and A|X Armani Exchange are coming soon to Cherry Hill Mall (dates to be determined). Nordstrom will be taking over Strawbridge’s old location and be opening in Spring 2009
– On October 6, 2007, the Coty Prestige fragrance company organized a major event at the Hotel de la Monnaie in Paris to present the new Chloe fragrance to the international press, VIPs and trendsetters from all over the world. The three muses from the advertising campaign also attended the party: French actress Clemence Poesy (Fleur Delacour from Harry Potter), American actress Chloe Sevigny and finally, Anja Rubik, top model who can also be spotted in the Chloe fashion campaigns. Chloe Eau de Parfum will be available in February 2008. Chloe Sevigny for Chloe- how fitting.
Charity
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and to promote that…
– Saks Fifth Avenue has teamed up with Juicy Couture to create a limited edition T-shirt to benefit their annual breast cancer fund, Key to the Cure. The campaign raises funds for more than 50 charitable programs dedicated to finding new detection methods, treatments and, hopefully, a cure for women’s cancers through the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) Women’s Cancer Research Fund. Renée Zellweger has been named the EIF’s ambassador for the 2007 campaign and models the “Viva La Cure” shirt made exclusively for Sak’s Fifth Avenue with all proceeds from its sale to benefit EIF’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund.
– Ralph Lauren has teamed up with net-a-porter.com to create a limited edition polo shirt with a target on it instead of his iconic polo player to benefit the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer fund. The exclusive FTBC polo shirt is available in five different colors and 100% of the net proceeds will be donated to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer.
However, just because it’s October doesn’t mean other causes can’t be supported
– For years, the insurance company MetLife has been associated with the image of Peanuts character Snoopy. Now, they have teamed up with designers and celebrities (Betsey Johnson, Liz Claiborne, Heatherette, Jason Wu, View co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Project Runway’s Laura Bennett just to name a few) to create one-of-a-kind Peanuts-inspired clothing to be auctioned for charity. The auction is running in three waves, with new designs being added every ten days through the month of October. All the proceeds from the auction will benefit Dress for Success, a non-profit organization which promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Check out all the designs and place your bid at ebay.com/snoopyinfashion.
– Remember the (PRODUCT) RED Gap campaign? 3 new celebrities have joined this campaign to benefit the elimination of AIDS in Africa- Actress Anne Hathaway, Artist John Legend with the African Children’s Choir, and musician/producer Wyclef Jean with his daughter Angelina. Also the campaign will reintroduce a series of pictures from the summer which include actor Terrence Howard, Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines (both with their children) and actress Abigail Breslin with her friend Curious George.
Entertainment:
Music
– Everyone has their own unique human scent and it seems that some artists have discovered this because while they may not be creating musical hits, they are creating “scentsations”. Paris Hilton launched her fourth perfume, Can Can, which was inspired by Moulin Rouge, Mariah Carey created a signature perfume “M by Mariah Carey”, Christina Aguilera, launched her eponymous fragrance, and Britney Spears despite all her drama has a new fragrance ‘Believe’.
– In Fergie’s “pop up book” music video for her new single “Clumsy”, she “falls in love” with model Alex Lundquist and also walks the runway for fashion label Dsquared^2.
– The Spice Girls will be performing at this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. The fashion show, held at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre, will mark the American TV debut of the Spice Girls’ comeback tour. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2007 will air on CBS on November 15.
Movies/TV
– Sex and the City was known for the crazy fashions worn throughout the episodes. Sex and the City: The Movie will be no different. Patricia Fields, celebrity stylist is back and bolder than ever for the Movie that will be released May 30, 2008.
– The hot new show Gossip girl has many people talking especially about the stylish outfits the cast wears. Whether it may be the Chanel coats or the designer shoes, the more reasonably priced garments can now be found in the Gossip girl clothing store on the CW website.
Science
– The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found that more than half of tested lipsticks contained lead and some popular brands including Cover Girl, L’Oreal and Christian Dior had more lead than others. “It’s critical that manufacturers reformulate their product,” said Stacy Malkan, a co-founder of the coalition.
“It’s possible to make lipsticks without lead, and all companies should be doing that.” Lead builds up in the body over time and lead-containing lipstick applied several times a day, every day, can add up to significant exposure levels. Lead can cause learning, language and behavioral problems such as reduced school performance and increased aggression. Fall fashions this year were put on show with beauty trends highlighting the lip and the public is sure to follow. This is when fashion becomes fatal.
– It seems to be a commonly accepted notion in the world today that models are dumb. But is this assumption really true? VH1 attempts to answer this question in the newest social science experiment, “America’s Most Smartest Model”. 7 models of each gender will live together as they compete to determine who has what it takes to be named the perfect combination of Beauty and Brains. It’s an intriguing show that keeps the viewer engaged whether it’s because of the flawless faces of the models that require staring or the surprising answers that leave us wanting more.
Sports
– Instead of a typical male model, the new face of Stetson Cologne is New England Patriots football player Tom Brady. “I am excited to be the Stetson man,” Brady has said. “Stetson does a great job of reflecting the guy who’s unafraid to tackle the unknown, get involved and be his own person—that’s how I live my life, and I think that’s how men who wear Stetson approach theirs.” The new Stetson man will appear in stores nationwide in time for the 2007 holiday season.

Fashion for Thought:
“…I give you the lovely … Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Valentino Garavani, Miuccia Prada, Karl Lagerfeld. A thousand others. They are fashion’s marvellously, technically “unbeautiful” people who use clothes unselfconsciously to express who they are, and who, incidentally, wield more power in the world than most technically beautiful people ever will.”
