UNICEF has been recognized since December 11, 1946. In December, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund will be celebrating 65 years of responding to the needs of millions of displaced and refugee children deprived of shelter, fuel and food since the aftermath of World War II.
The UNICEF club was started two years ago by Reetu DePani (’12) and Hannah Luk (’12). They asked Mrs. Foley, a Spanish teacher at East, to advise the club.
“Their [DePani and Luk] enthusiasm has helped spark the club’s success,” said Sra. Foley.
The club raises money through fundraisers such as the well-known “Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF”. They also hold a variety of sales: pretzels, pizza, baked goods. Señora Foley said that the membership has greatly increased this year with the incoming freshman class.
The UNICEF club thanks the East community, the greater Cherry Hill community for the generous donations brought in by UNICEF club members, other East students, and Señora Foley’s students.

Good article Thomas!
Some members of another East community service club, the Do Something Club (http://cherryhilldosomethingclub.moonfruit.com), also trick-or-treated for UNICEF!
