Mr. Console chooses to retire after his 19 years of teaching at East
Mr. Console Ends His Time at East
Beloved Spanish teacher and Habitat for Humanity club advisor Mr. Console is retiring at the end of this year after teaching at East for the last 19 years.
Console started his career working for the Habitat For Humanity organization in Philadelphia. Through his work, he was able to get to know many of the schools that were involved in Habitat for Humanity.
Because of his experience in the organization, other people he was working with suggested that he become a teacher. He began working as a teacher at Moorestown Friends School and eventually moved to East.
Not only did Console’s move to East allow him to teach many more students, but he was also able to introduce Habitat for Humanity to the East audience. Numerous students joined Habitat throughout its years and though it slowed to a stop during the pandemic, it was able to pick back up this year with new members and even more interest. Without Console, East may have never been able to experience Habitat for Humanity.
“I think the biggest impact I will be leaving on East is giving them the opportunity to participate in Habitat for Humanity,” says Console.
In addition to the club, Console has taught multiple Spanish courses throughout the years. Teaching levels one through five, he has been able to work with multiple students, make connections with them, and improve their language knowledge and skills.
“The people in this school are truly phenomenal. The students, the staff, the administrators, everyone. I am so fortunate to have learned from them over the years,” Console says.
Console is retiring to Valencia, Spain, where he used to live. He hopes to take guitar lessons, go bicycling in the city, and continue to help others by fixing homes.
While he is sad to leave East, Console is looking forward to what his future in Spain holds.
