On a stage where competitors are aiming to impress, Brad Hendricks (‘26), or Mr. Sendy Hendy, is coming to entertain for Mr. East on April 16 with a mic, a diss track and the charismatic charm of Ken from the 2023 movie “Barbie.”
Hendrick’s nickname, Mr. Sendy Hendy, is both a play on words and a reference; as the friend who often hosts hangouts, Hendricks, or “Hendy,” is often sending fun to the way, hence the name. This playfulness is something embodied in his Hollywood character, Ken.
“He’s just a light, and, in the media and in the movie, everybody loves him,” Hendricks said. “He’s super fun and relatable, and he has a good wardrobe and really good songs, so it was a win-win.”
But the bubbly personality isn’t the only thing he shares with Ken. In his free time, Hendricks enjoys making raps with his friends — a talent he is looking to present through a carefully prepared diss-track.
“I’ve definitely deep dived into some of these contestants’ lives and what they do in their free time,” said Hendricks. “I’ve worked with my friend, and I’m just going to say: it’s not going to be very pretty for them.”
While he admitted that competition will be fierce, Hendricks has faith not just in his talents but in his charisma.
“I feel like a lot of it is about the talent, but it’s also about how you show yourself, and I think that once I’m on the stage, everyone’s going to be very excited,” said Hendricks. “I think I can really bring the energy up, and I feel like out of all the other contestants, I’ll be the best at doing that.”
Yet, whether it be the new tuxes to wear or a diss-track to keep the energy high, Hendricks is here to have fun.
“At the end of the day, whatever happens happens — I’m here to have a good time, and if I win, that’ll be even better,” Hendricks said.
