Cherry Hill School District holds a variety of summer preparation courses for high school students

Once finally finishing their last final exam, students find themselves faced with one magnificent event, giving them two months of freedom from school: Summer. During the summer, some East students want nothing more than to play mindless activities with friends and to explore the world on family vacations. However, the last day of school might not be the total end of one’s educational days for the year; quite a few students enroll in Cherry Hill East’s summer PSAT and SAT courses designed to enhance a student’s mindset on standardized testing.

The tutorial courses, designed for students who are getting ready to take the SAT or the PSAT, span 14 hours over the course of four days. The options are very flexible for the classes, which make up the courses. While students can opt to take solely the Math or English verbal courses, they also have the option of taking both courses, resulting in 28 hours of SAT preparation. However, if the students do decided to take both classes, it is strictly advised to take the two classes during different weeks in August, in order for less overwork of students and an easier digestion of information learned. The first week of the tutorial courses is from August 1 to 4, while the second week of the workshops will last from August 8 to 11. Once a student enrolls in the program, they have the choice of attending one of three sessions: a morning session from 9 am to 12:30 pm, an afternoon session from 1 pm to 4:30 pm, or a night session from 5 pm to 8:30 pm.

Along with the SAT and PSAT prep courses, the school district is also offering a college essay writing course for the 2016 curriculum. The tutorial is a 13-hour learning experience taking place over the course of four days. The workshops will hold a maximum of 12 students to ensure that every student feels confident in their writing by the end of the four day tutorial. The workshop aims to help a student experience the entire process of essay writing from prewriting through production of a final draft. Similar to the PSAT and SAT tutorial courses, this course likewise features a morning session from 9 am to 12:15 pm, an afternoon session from 1 pm – 4:15 pm, and a night session from 5 pm – 8:15 pm. All of the workshops will be held at either Cherry Hill East High School or Cherry Hill West High School and are sponsored by the Cherry Hill Guidance Departments.

Although the summer oftentime feels like a time to completely relax and forget about everything one has learned in school, it can be a great tool, allowing one to catch up on any work they may have missed. Ultimately, the summer PSAT and SAT programs come into a successful student’s mind at the most suitable time when students are not focused on other harsh school work and can be completely committed to learning all about the PSAT and SAT focal points. During this summer vacation, remember that what one thinks might be the best opportunity to relax, may also be the best time to enroll in the Cherry Hill High School district’s PSAT and SAT programs.
