During first period every morning, students passing by D-Wing can hear the faint strains of singing wafting from East Singers, the top-level mixed choir at Cherry Hill East. Already well known for its rigorous rehearsals, East Singers is currently in an even more intense mode of concentration in preparation for its performance on public television.
On October 15th, 2009, Cherry Hill East’s very own East Singers will travel to NJN Public Television studios to perform in the PBS special “Celebrate America.” East Singers has won numerous accolades in past competitions and festivals. In fact, in 2008, the choir was one of only 14 selected for “Celebrate America,” and its strong performance led to East Singers being invited back for another performance.
Tim Janis, a well-known composer and philanthropist, created “Celebrate America” to showcase the musical talents of America’s youth. In the past, Janis has worked with many organizations in support of various causes. He is well known for his work in “Music with a Mission.”
Among the songs East Singers will perform on the show is “Danny Boy”, a ballad written by Frederick Weatherly.
