Breaking News: Schoolwide SGA election results
Devyn Levin (‘22) has been elected President of the East student body for the 2021-2022 school year. She will be joined in the school-wide student government administration by newly elected Vice Presidents Gina Liu (‘23), Youbin Park (‘22) Chris Shin (‘23), and Grant Yoon (‘23).
Levin ran on a platform of making changes around mental health, school events, and student voice issues. Some of her proposals include creating an open peer helpline through Instagram for students to seek help and adding events such as a masked singer competition and a pumpkin carving contest. Eastside spoke with Levin for her first interview as President-elect, which you can read here.
Newly elected Vice President Gina Liu (‘23) said “I wouldn’t be here without all the people who supported me… I owe it to them to make sure that I don’t let [their support] go to waste.” She later added, “East, brace yourself… I am going to come in with a bang… I am going to create change,” and said her first priority would be creating more opportunities for students to make their voices heard.
Grant Yoon (‘23), just having won election as Vice President, said, “I’m glad that I have the opportunity to… help the school out.” He added that he was happy to see Levin and Liu win their positions, having worked with them in the past. He echoes Liu’s response in naming student voice issues as a top priority going into his work as Vice President. He said he hopes to expand upon the work he’s done in helping to create the sophomore student voice committee this year.
Candidates for President Tim Ackerman (‘22) and Max Gaffin (‘22), as well as candidates for Vice President Joelle Kang (‘23), Kiran Muttathil (‘23), and Ayza Sayany (‘23), fell short in their bids for those offices. Full results of the election and its vote tallies have not been released.
The list of victorious candidates was posted to class year Google Classrooms around 4 p.m. this afternoon by East Activities Director Charles Davis.
