The Ballroom Dance Club met yesterday after school for the last time before the end of the semester. After reviewing the tango, a South American dance with roots in Argentina , club president Natasha Andriyanycheva (‘10) began the teaching the Latin-American cha-cha-cha.
While the tango is practiced in many varieties, the club practices the ballroom tango due to its popularity and competitive elements. By contrast, the cha-cha-cha hails from the island of Cuba. However, the sensual elements and complex rhythms of both dances provide an easy transition from one to the other.
As usual, the club witnessed a fairly diverse turnout, with participants ranging from their freshman to their senior year. Refreshments were served at the end, to the relief of the dancers.
