Picture of an egg cracks the old Instagram record
January 23, 2019
A picture of an egg is now the most liked on Instagram. How you might ask? The egg’s reason for being shared was to overthrow the then-current record-holder, Kylie Jenner, and become the top. The egg now has over 50 million likes, beating Jenner’s previous record of 18.3 million.
The egg, posted January 4, has gained a large number of likes and even followers, with celebrities raising attention to the cause.
In the posts’ caption the egg wrote, “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this!”
Household names such as Ellen DeGeneres and Mike Tyson posted their own versions of the egg after they egg reached its objective. The egg is still gaining likes as it posted a second post of the same picture but with a crack on it. The creator the @world_record_egg claims to be an individual from London. The master mind reached out to ABC news on an Email.
“While doing dry January, I was sitting at home reading an article online about the top 20 Instagram posts of 2018,” they wrote, “I thought it would be an interesting experiment to try and beat the record with something as basic as possible.”
As the egg reached its goal, Sunday, January 13, Jenner reacted by posting a video of her cracking an egg. “Take that little egg,” she wrote.
The egg now sells apparel and has their own snapchat filter and the account is now verified.
