Around the world, France is known for its amazing pastries. Croissants, macarons, and profiteroles are all French delicacies adored by many. No longer are these authentic delicacies limited to only France. In 2012, Woops!, a macaron bakery, brought French pastries to New York City.
The business first began in New York City, when four best friends created a macaron pop-up shop at the Winter Village in Bryant Park. Nine weeks went by with lines constantly out the door. The best friends unintentionally created their successful macaron shop, ultimately inspiring the name Woops!
Since their early opening in 2012, Woops! has opened over 30 boutique kiosks and bakeries across the United States. Woops! recently expanded their franchise with a boutique kiosk in the Cherry Hill Mall. They have a wide variety of flavors, ranging from a classic vanilla macaron, to a dulce de leche macaron. Woops! prides themselves in having authentic, high quality macarons that are larger than the average size macaron. Each cookie is made with premium, handpicked, and world-class ingredients. In addition to macarons, Woops! also sells Alfajores, which are South American shortbread cookies with a dulce de leche filling.
I went to Woops! during their re-grand opening in the mall on Saturday, January 27. I got an assortment of 12 macarons including pistachio, birthday cake, dark chocolate, vanilla, dulce de leche, and nutella. There were many different box sizes to choose from including boxes of nine, 18, 27, and 36 macarons. In addition to boxes, they also have pyramid towers available to order on their online website. They have many ordering and gifting options on their website.
“We do corporate gifting, personal gifting, and we also do catering,” said Sofia Santora, founder of the Cherry Hill Mall location.
Each macaron I tried had a flavorful filling with a light, airy, and crunchy shell on the outside. All of the macarons matched perfectly with their flavor description. My personal favorite was the nutella. The nutella is made with an authentic Italian nutella spread and a French Valrhona dark chocolate ganache.
“The best selling [macaron] is Nutella at our location,” said Sofia Santora.
Another flavor I enjoyed was their pistachio macaron. It is filled with a pistachio paste and white chocolate ganache.
