FUNBOX, billed as “the world’s largest bounce park,” brought 25,000 square feet of pure fun and excitement to the Cherry Hill Mall. From August to October, for $24 a person, visitors could dive into a massive inflatable play-ground with 10 unique play areas including fan favorites like the 23-foot Slide and the Battle Beam.
Founded in Southern California by Antonio Nieves, FUNBOX was designed to deliver a true family experience to all kids worldwide. Drawing from his own challenges in foster care, Nieves wanted to create affordable joyful experiences for families everywhere. He not only ensured FUNBOX was a safe and entertaining space, but also built it with the mission to give back to the communities that supported him.
With a bold goal of reaching 1% of all kids across America, FUNBOX has expanded to 21 different pop-up locations over the past few years and has donated over $100,000 to local foster care agencies. By combining fun with philanthropy, FUNBOX is redefining what it means to play with a purpose.
In Cherry Hill, FUNBOX partnered with the Stephanie Nicole Parze Foundation, a nonprofit organization aiming to provide education, intervention and support to families and individuals dealing with domestic violence, sexual abuse and missing loved ones. During their grand opening weekend, FUNBOX donated $1 to the foundation for every ticket sold, turning 1,500 tickets into charitable contributions.
Located off Route 38, FUNBOX occupied the parking lot of the Cherry Hill Mall, a popular New Jersey destination. Immediately after walking through a vibrant archway, FUNBOX greeted its guests with upbeat music and welcoming smiles.
FUNBOX was divided into two main sections: the obstacle course and the inflatable playground. With employees scattered around, FUNBOX provided a safe family-friendly activity suitable for everyone.
The first thing that stuck out was the obstacle course. Perfect for younger adventurous children, the obstacle course featured climbable walls, small slides and a variety of colorful mazes. Once completing the obstacle course, guests were encouraged to enter the main bounce park equipped with different sections, games and challenges. The main bounce park included attractions ranging from friendly obstacles like the Gumball Gallop and the Mountain Challenge to exciting games such as the Battle Beam and basketball. Guests bounced from one play area to another, elevating their FUNBOX experience to new heights.
“I had a lot of fun and everyone around me looked so happy, “ said Susannah Lieberman (‘25).
While FUNBOX certainly embraced the idea of fun, some guests noted that the cleanliness could be improved.
“I liked it a lot but I was a little grossed out because [the employees] didn’t seem concerned to clean everything when people left the park,” said Lieberman.
“It’s a lot of fun but I think it needs to be cleaner,” said a Cherry Hill resident and grandmother of two. “[My grandchildren] love it, but I’m afraid they will get sick.”
With FUNBOX being an outdoor attraction, it’s hard to keep it 100% clean at all times. Amir Matarieh, the senior manager, admits that rain is often their greatest enemy, and after 300 guests a day, it’s difficult to keep the park spotless. Despite this, the staff tries their best to address sanitation concerns and keep the experience enjoyable for everyone.
From its vibrant colors and engaging attractions to the meaningful mission behind its creation, FUNBOX is committed to spreading joy to children and families everywhere. Through generous donations, FUNBOX embodies the spirit of giving through fun.
“Traveling around the country bringing smiles to kids’ and parents’ faces is a very rewarding feeling. All the hard work pays off as soon as we open to the community,” said Matarieh.
