Located in Voorhees, the Allstar Bagel and Grill is newly opened and specializes in different bagels. The building is small, but there is a certain charm to the café, with its blue interior and a quirky bagel display. A seating area is offered to any customer who wants to sit back and take some time to savor what Allstar has.
The menu offers a variety of classic breakfast items, but the different bagel combinations are a must-try. Freshly baked every day, the bagels can be mixed and matched with various add-ons. The flavored cream cheese—scallion, pumpkin pie, vanilla bean, strawberry, and more—seems to be a popular choice.
Other menu items include the French toast, overnight oats, and breakfast wraps. Allstar also offers smoothies and Açaí bowls to complement your selected entreé.
I first tried the Pebble Peach Smoothie, a blend of peaches, bananas, and mangos. Disappointingly, this smoothie had an artificial taste that left behind a strange aftertaste. The smoothie tasted more strongly of bananas rather than peach, and the consistency was quite watery. While I have had worse, I was disappointed that a simple smoothie did not taste as good as I thought it would.
On a more positive note, though, the plain bagel that I chose was a pleasant surprise. It was lightly toasted to a golden-brown color, and the texture was soft and chewy with a slight trace of sweetness to it. I also chose to try the scallion cream cheese and the strawberry cream cheese with the bagel—I enjoyed the scallion flavor, but the strawberry was not to my taste. The strawberry cream cheese was a little sour, and it honestly tasted like I spread a strawberry-flavored yogurt on the bagel. But the scallion cream cheese was fresh, and the scallions added a note of sharpness that cut through the heaviness of regular cream cheese.
Another menu item that I tried was the Waffle Beach, which included egg whites with spinach, turkey bacon, and melted Swiss cheese, all sandwiched between two waffles. This was my personal favorite—the smoky flavor from the bacon, the earthiness of the greens, and the gooey cheese were well-balanced so that no ingredient overpowered the others. The dish also came with maple syrup and soft butter, which were great flavor enhancers as well. Even though there were many different parts to Waffle Beach, it did not feel too heavy or overwhelming to eat.
The Allstar Bagel and Grill is a great option for anyone looking to try a new breakfast spot. With fresh bagels, drinks, and waffle combos, it is a satisfactory spot for casual dining.
